Stanley Thornton’s wife was Grace Wilt; his father was Charles Thornton, Sr. and his mother was Lillie Nightingale.

Stanley Thornton was a fire fighter with the Detroit fire department, he lost his life while fighting a fire at a Detroit lumberyard.

Because of his duty death the name of Firefighter Thornton is inscribed on the Michigan Fallen Heroes Memorial Monument, Stone 6, Row 13.
