Hero’s Name: Lee Eric Smith
Rank: Sergeant
Agency: Wayne County Sheriff’s Office
End Of Watch: 8/14/2018

NOTES:

On Tuesday, August 14, 2018, Sergeant Lee Eric Smith was jogging in Hines Park when he was struck and killed by a hit and run driver while returning from ancillary duties at the Wayne County Sheriff’s Mounted barn. It was and still is a requirement for the mounted officers and supervisors to provide mount care and facility upkeep on days and times outside of normal work hours. Sergeant Smith routinely performed these duties as the mounted supervisor. Sergeant Smith had driven his county issued vehicle to a location close to the mounted barn, jogged to the barn, performed his duties, and was returning to his vehicle when the vehicular assault occurred.
